chania-airportChania Airport CHQ (or Ioannis Daskalogiannis Airport) is an international airport. It is located on the peninsula of Akrotiri (Souda), 14 km outside of Chania city and that makes it easily accessible from all directions. The bus service is available several times a day and taxis are always there for the receipt and transfer of passengers to any part of Crete.

The Chania Airport can easily accommodate 1100 passengers per hour, however, during the summer months of July – August, the service needs reaches the ability of 2500-3000 passengers per hour.

The airport of Chania offers domestic and international flights and it is worth noting that during the summer season there are charter flights from Berlin, the UK and Scandinavian countries to Chania airport. As it serves over 2,500,000 passengers a year, a new building extension has been put forth as well as a new control tower.

Historically it is worth noting that in 1959 the airport was transferred from Maleme to the Akrotiri area and since then the buildings are continuously updated, as flights to Chania airport are constantly increasing.
